The Bright Young Minds (BYM) High School Behavioral Health Conferences were created in Alameda County as a collaborative effort among county, education, and community organizations to bring behavioral health career education to local high school students.
The goal of BYM is to encourage diverse and talented high school youth to consider careers in behavioral health services through a variety of experiences that illustrate the many rewarding career opportunities in this growing field. In addition to learning about the many jobs opportunities through exposure to local behavioral health professionals, students learn about best practices in behavioral health care, methods to reduce stigma, and community resources.
Activities for the day include interactive mental health awareness activities, “speed mentoring” with community members, and workshops on important topics in behavioral health including crisis management, trauma-informed care, and new neuroscience approaches to treating mental health concerns.
